Last night I had the treat of going to the opening celebration party for the renovated Magnolia Hotel (formerly The Mayfair) and the OPOP Tower (formerly Roberts Tower). It was quite a party and the spaces were gorgeous! Tony Montano of Buds did the flowers....and they were plentiful, fragrant and lovely!

Today I held an Open House at my listing located at 22 Thornhill Drive. A gorgeous, historic home with a magnificent view of the Meramec River Valley. I even saw a bald eagle fly by! I was able to get to this property in 30 minutes from the CWE.
Well we knew it was going to happen, though sometime you can just try to ignore reality...though the wonderful Bernoudy/Mutrux- designed Schweiss Home is coming down. See more pictures of the home HERE.
You may ask....how can this happen? It is the reality of finances. The home is only about 1,000 sq ft and the current owners wanted $400,000 for it....and it eventually sold for $375,000. That is $375 a square foot in Ladue which is very high. The home was is poor condition. 4 Daniel Rd. was never really listed in the open market. I had it under contract once, though the Buyer could not get it to appraise for anywhere near the purchase price....even with the lot value. Appraisers and banks can't get around price per sq foot. The other challenge was finding other 1,000 sq ft, 1 bedroom homes in Ladue for comps.
We needed someone to buy it who could pay cash and did not care about making it a financial decision....a charitable, architecture enthusiast! They are out there!
Someone snatched the boy off of the frog. :( See him in one piece HERE
Earlier this week I had an opportunity to sneak out to our farm for the day and check out the Fall colors. I also wanted to check our farm house and make sure that it was okay after a nephew had his Freshman fraternity group out last weekend. The house was okay, though just too fragile to handle frat boys.
I also visited a fine property in Clarksville that I may be marketing....so it was not just a play day!
The old barn structures around the farm make wonderful subjects for photography....even making me look talented. I think it is the light quality and direction of the sun this time of year that makes everything dramatic!
Mike Brady Called......He wants his paneled den back!!!!
Seriously, You don't have to live with outdated paneling or endure demolition and remodel. All plasters were applied directly on paneling and laminate counter tops and even brick. Plus, they aredurable, pretty and unique.
A word about the LN Show House
If you made it to the Ladue News Show house this year-Huge Thanks! Two great causes Cardinal Glennon and Autism Speaks. If you are not familiar with a show house, it is where a bunch of designers/contractors/artists completely transform an outdated house into a show place over the course of about 2 weeks. Time and budget constraints definitely play into the creative process. It is truely an inspiration to see it all come together in controlled chaos. There are a lot of BIG HEART-ED people in the St. Louis Design community. I'd like to ThanksJeanne Lashmett for bringing me in on the project.

The commercial space with a fireplace that would be ideal for a boutique, art gallery, office space, coffee house or whatever you want to bring to the stylish Central West End. 1,985 sq. ft. on two levels with a dramatic 2-story loft space. Dumb waiter that goes from the garage to the living area…perfect for groceries!
Last Thursday I took my dear mother and handsome son to the Preview Party for the 2014 Ladue News Decorator's Show House. We loved all of the designer's rooms....and especially the Master Suite designed by David Deatherage. The show goes through October 19th....so hurry.
Yesterday I enjoyed a walking tour of Clayton's fabulous Mid-century commercial architecture. Toby Weiss and Darren Snow conducted the tour for Modern STL
The Guild Building pictured below was designed by Meyer Loomstein and is doomed to be taken down soon for a mixed use development. It was one of my favorites on the tour. Located at 7912 Bonhomme. Remember the house I featured on Lindell designed by Meyer Loomstein...check it out... HERE
This week I had pleasure of eating at Peacemaker this week in the old Niche space in Benton Park. The food was great....I had the Peacemaker Hogie. The design of the restaurant is perfect....very well stylized!
The Ladue News has selected 34 Briarcliff in Ladue to be ther 2014 Decorator's Show House. I can't wait to see what they have done to this colonial home. I grew up at 8 Briarcliff. My parents lived there for about 27 years. Great memories!
The Preview Party is this Thursday 6-8 PM

Yesterday I popped into Bowood Farms in the CWE. I was delighted to find a nice selection of Winterberry. I snatched up the plants with the best berries....and one homely-looking male plant....which you need if you want berries next year! I am going to put them in my large planters over the winter and then plant them in the Spring. I did this with Reg-twigged Dogwood bushes last year and they added a nice splash of color.
I did my part at my last house....it was painful to get rid of the cover, though I ended up with lovely new plantings! This Summer I finished eradicating the honeysuckle from my new house. Ladue is really overrun with it. Now it is your turn!
A bigger project is getting rid of it on our farm in Pike County. Over just the last 4 years, I have noticed that it has really taken hold in the area and our farm. The good news is that it is the last thing to lose leaves and the first to get them. Someone told me that you can paint the trunks, after you cut them down, with white vinegar. There are strong things that you can find at the hardware store.
This is a rare opportunity to purchase one of the last investment 4-families in the Clayton Moorlands neighborhood. 4 large, 2 bedroom units. This building is in incredible shape! New windows, roof, garage roof, concrete parking pad & new electric service and panels. New or newer HVAC systems- central AC and forced air heat. New copper supply lines. New or newer individual hot water heaters. 3-car garage. Fully leased with great opportunity to increase rents. Your tenants can walk to Starbuck’s, restaurants, gym and more. Unique floor plan with two large closets in the hallway that give you the ability to add a washer/dryer room AND a full 2nd bathroom or half-bath and get astronomical rents if the new owner so wishes! Absolutely no showings without proof of funds or a pre-approval prior to showing.

Today I was on Chippewa and popped by Le Grand's for lunch....my first time. The Legend Club served warm was one of the best sandwiches I have enjoyed. It was sort of like Imo's Meat Lover's Pizza in a sandwich. Located at 4414 Donovan a block off of Chippewa....in an old Tom Boy store. The only thing better than the sandwich was the nice lady at the check out line...she somehow squeezed about 5 endearments into our transaction....I wish I wrote them down....though they were all better than calling me "Peaches".
Over the weekend I had a group out to our farm to enjoy the lovely weather, each other's company and great food/drink. The stars were bright and beautiful last night! I don't have very much time to do overnights at our farm, so this is a treat for me. It also keeps me in tune with how the farm serves guests. My friends gently encouraged me to look into hooking up to County Water which runs in front of our property. We currently have well water that is infused with sulfur. I am a little hesitant to make the change since the smell of our water is rich with memories. What will come next? Central heat and AC? A TV? More than 1 bathroom? A dishwasher? A disposal? Internet? If I make it too comfortable, people may want to stay longer! I actually used our out-house this morning....a two-holer!
Remember when Kent Furniture was in this building for years....and then Expressions....and then... I drove by the other day and it is being torn down. I was hopeful that it was going to be saved by looking at Reliance Bank's plans, though the new building will just echo the old one. Sorry for my lazy reporting, though I think I remember that this used to be a historic school building. Over the years it has been gutted and added onto.

I went to an event at Truffles in Ladue earlier this week for the Dielmann Sotheby's team of Peddle for a Cause. Their Truffle WIld Mushroom Risotto is worth the trip.....so good. Their hamburgers are also a treat. I walked by their new butcher shop that has opened in a adjoining space. Read more HERE
