Farm Fun

Last Saturday my cousins hosted a Halloween Party at "Rockford Schoolhouse" on our farm in Pike County.  The country band was charming.  Make sure you look at the really spooky pictures tomorrow from the bonfire that took place after it got dark!

Cindy Sherman

Here is another example of the ceramic art featured at, "the art of industrial ceramics".....seen at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto this summer. Artist Cindy Sherman has added her face to the 1750's styled french china.

Horsetail

Horsetail is a prehistoric plant that grows in the wild in our area. Beware....it spreads quickly and needs to be contained. I think it looks contemporary would be cool in a mod container. Try it next Spring!

Downtown Plantings

A few days ago I was downtown and was amazed by the lovely plantings down the middle of Market Street. My pic is not that good since it was taken while driving and from my iPhone.

Atrium Gallery Opening

Carolyn Miles' The Atrium Gallery had its grand opening last night at their new location, 4728 McPherson.  The current exhibit, "Give Me The Cobra Jewel" by NY artist Christopher Tanner was exciting. Christopher gave a special performance to add further sparkle to his exhibit.

The McPherson/ Euclid area was abuzz the whole evening with almost every store/gallery and restaurant having special openings.  The old Balabans had their opening night also and is now called Herbies...we could not even get in due to the crowd.

Canvas Grocery Bags

Slowly I am seeing more people using their own bags in the grocery store. My guesstimate would be about 10% of the shoppers have adopted the canvas bag.  Have you?  Maybe if you had a snazzy piece of original art you would be more inclined to use canvas.  Find this charming bag here:  BAG

Rockford Farms

Last weekend I finished a painting project with the farmhouse. I discovered carpenter ants have move in somewhere.  In researching carpenter ants it seems that they have a main colony and then satellite colonies. You need to find all of the colonies and kill each one. The colony could be inside the walls. I found one colony in the front porch pillar.  The idea of ants eating my wooden support beams has caused me at least one night of lost sleep. If anyone has any experience with how to deal with carpenter ants, let me know.
