Located on a private 3 acres in prime Ladue is this Bernoudy-design contemporary masterpiece. The kitchen is bright and features granite counters, double ovens, stainless steel refrigerator, skylights and granite counters. The master bedroom suite is special with a dressing room that would satisfy anyone with a need for plenty of closet space. There is a cozy den with a fireplace on the main floor, laundry and office. The Lower Level has a whole wall of windows and sliding doors that lead to a terrace. There is a large recreation room with a marble wood-burning fireplace. 3 more bedrooms and 2 renovated, full baths are in the Lower Level. The Lower Level has tons of storage, a second laundry room and rough-in for a kitchen. The ultimate in privacy with no neighbors in view. Professionally landscaped by award-winning Moynihan & Associates. If you need an additional bedroom, there are plenty of options to easily add one.
I went through this home yesterday and thought it was a winner. I would call it 40's Deco. I think you can really play up the curved, blocked windows. Imagine it painted bright white to give it an international feel?
"This single owner home was build with LOVE! The entire house has the original hardwood floors, and newer ceramic tile. There are lovely coved ceilings with built-in lighting in the dining and sitting rooms, and an inviting woodburning fireplace in the family room. The renovated kitchen has gorgeous tile flooring and marble countertops. Appliances to stay in kitchen with 2 storage pantries, and breakfast bar. Large master bedroom has a unique bathroom with the original tilework from the 1940s. The french doors in the master bedroom lead to what was formerly a screened in patio, now a perfect enclosed room for whatever you can imagine...has bamboo flooring, its own heating/cooling system and even it's own separate entrance. The extra wide stairs lead to an amazingly large attic, that was designed with the intent to build upwards one day. This home sits on nearly an acre of land, front and back yards have a woodsy feel yet you are close to all the amenities of the Ladue/Brentwood area." $599,000

The stylish home sits on an acre and you have to love the front yard with the diagonal cut lines! Shhhh...this home could be for sale. Contact me directly for more information. Designed by Eugene Mackey Sr. in 1948, this Ladue home on an acre is exciting! Recently renovated and turned into a contemporary masterpiece while retaining the MCM feel of the house. Spacious Lower Level with doors that lead to a private pool.
Last week I went through 62 Clermont Lane in Ladue that is for sale for $549,900. It really has a stunning mid-century kitchen. Just gorgeous! The rest of the house has many cool features also. Listed by John Milonas, Keller Williams 314-799-6605.
Yesterday I finally went through the stylish Isadore Shank home located at 7 Graybridge. It is listed for $499,000. See more HERE. A couple of Isadore's sons joined me and shared some pictures of the house when it was first finished. The style was very international/ art deco. Check out my pictures of the house today compared to the original style. Very cool! I hope someone restores it! The home backs to 5 acres of common ground.
This house has a perfect Mid-century (MCM) St. Charles kitchen.

Yesterday I went through this stunning house in Ladue designed by Harris Armstrong. I just loved it. A true masterpiece. It sits on 3 acres in Ladue, so I am fearful that someone may want the lot.
"One of St. Louis' treasures by renowned architect Harris Armstrong, this property was designed totally around the idea of being a passive solar home. The expansive 49' great room provides the perfect setting for any gathering with its floor to ceiling glass walls providing serene views bringing the outdoors in. Multiple seating areas are all brought together by the impressive limestone fireplace set centerstage. The divided flr plan includes 4 bedrms (3 with flr to ceiling windows); The master suite and 2 bedrms with a Jack & Jill bath at one end, and a 4th bedroom suite on the other, adjoining the kitchen perfect for nanny or in-law quarters. The efficient L-shaped kitchen boasts stainless counters, 2 stainless sinks, white Geneva cabinets and tile flr. The lower level sports a rec room with stone fireplace, wet bar and terrazzo floors with built in shuffle board, powder room and walks out to an area perfect for pool. Another feature, 3-car garage plus carport for additional parking." $1,265,000
Today my listing located at 8 Graybridge Lane closed. The Buyers wanted the house 20 years ago, when it was last on the market and lost out because of a competing offer. Finally, the house is now theirs! Patience can pay off!
The high-end market is continuing to improve in the St. Louis area. Over 138 homes/condos in the area sold for more than $1 million. 2010 was 128 properties and 2009 was 119 properties. Below are some significant sales.
11 Carrswold, Clayton, MO $2,300,000
35 Squires Lane, Huntleigh $4,000,000 Sold by the Orthwein Estate and bought by a "relative"
9855 Litzsinger, Ladue $3,125,000 Bought by a sibling of the purchaser above....there must have been 20 work trucks there the other day when I drove by...no picture...though you know it....the white frame home at the entrance of Logan Cabin Lane....it rambles on for ages
The lovely Schweiss Home designed by William A Bernoudy is available to purchase. This is a rare opportunity to buy a gem of a home located on a quiet Ladue lane- Daniel Rd. The lot is large and private....which is a problem....the lot is too valuable. This house is in real danger of being torn down by someone who just wants the lot. The price is somewhere around $410,000 which is also a good price point to buy a lot in Ladue. Someone needs to step up and buy this treasure before it is lost. The current owners would hate to have the house torn down, though economics become a reality. This home is small and would be ideal for a single person or close couple. It would also be a great St. Louis pad for a person or couple who travels a lot. The concrete flooring has a diamond motif that you can find at the Frank Lloyd Wright house at Ebsworth Park in Kirkwood. New HVAC, electric, plumbing....and more, though still needs some finishing work.

Today the sale of 1506 S. Warson Rd in Ladue closed. The home was a renovation project that was abandoned a few years ago. The property has been a Ladue eye-sore for a while. Recently the property become a bank-owned property. I represented the Seller. The new owner plans on completing the renovation project...in fact, I saw a construction trailer already in the driveway this afternoon.
This bank-owned property is located on one of Ladue's most prestigious roads. This house needs lots of TLC and you will win the hearts of all of Ladue for transforming this eye-sore into a showplace. The house is in pretty rough shape, so it could also be a tear-down. Coming Soon!

Yesterday I took my Aunt Bunny over to see 4 Clermont Lane in Ladue that is for sale. She had lived in the home as a young girl when she was attending Mary Institute. She said that it was unsettling through a house 70+ years later that has occupied her dreams for so long. From her stories, I can tell that she was a handful....and still is! She said that she put ribbons in my father's hair and paraded him down Clermont Lane, introducing him as her sister.
"Colonial farmhouse cape beautifully appointed with charm and character throughout. This home was carefully crafted over the years with a floor plan offering great utility while retaining a gracious flow of generously sized rooms. First floor center hall design offers a living room, sunroom, bar room, 3 season porch, gorgeous dining room, kitchen, large family room & 4th bedroom w/full bath. Completing the 1st floor is a large mud room w/laundry & charming powder room tucked under the main stair. All rooms with the exception of beds and baths have hardwood floors. Included throughout are beautiful windows, and many rooms with chair rail, crown molding, wainscote and original millwork. This is a striking house with beautiful patios & walkways surrounding the house, large drive with plenty of parking and pretty lawns with many flowering trees. This is a wonderful opportunity for a Buyer to live in one of the original residences of Ladue in a home with heart, character, grace and charm." $1,050,000

Looking at these pictures you would think this home was located in the country... far from the city....though it is really right in the heart of Ladue. This elegant contemporary home has just been listed by Laura McCarthy's Clayton office- 314-725-5100
This week I went through one of my favorite homes in Ladue...the white-pillared home on Price. It is now on the market with Coldwell Banker's Ladue Office. I am told that this was the Arkansas display house from the World's Fair. My step grandmother, Grace Wallace Niedringhaus Wight, lived in this house as a young girl in first part of the 1900's. She told me that it was really out in the country at that time. The street car stopped at Busch's Grove. She said that things changed in the area when the St. Louis Country Club moved from Clayton to the present location in the 1920's. Then everyone started building homes in the area. She also grimaced when she heard that an owner after her family painted the pecan panelling white.
I am excited to announce that the lovely Bernoudy home located at 3 Sumac Lane in Ladue closed today. I represented the Buyers, a stylish couple who plans to preserve the integrity of this fine piece of architecture.

A reader sent me this information and picture yesterday. It looks like a different house than the one that I talked about a few weeks ago. Any further information readers have one this subject is appreciated. Litzsinger Woods is a new subdivision now with "cluster homes".
"Shown below is a picture of the Rhode Island exhibit home at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. On July 4, 1904 it was purchased by St. Louisian John Ringen with the intent to dismantle it and reconstruct it on his farm on Litzsinger Road. On your old plat maps of the era you will see this located in the Charleville Tract where the Mo. Pac. RR branch and Des Peres River meet, just west of Tilles Park., what is now part of Litzinger Woods. I'm not so sure this is the same building you depict as the old World's Fair building in your communique of February 16, 2011???"

This stunning Ladue home is a contemporary masterpiece: 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths, on an acre land backing to 3 acres of common grounds. The home has a 2-story addition that features a dramatic vaulted-ceiling great room with custom wood paneling plus many windows, and has 2 large bright bedrooms and a full bath in the lower level with a walkout to the patio. The main level master bedroom suite features a large dressing area with built-in closets and a luxurious bath with separate shower and Jacuzzi tub. Another bedroom suite on the main level is Asian-inspired with a tatami platform for sitting and sleeping (on a full-size futon that can be stored below). The gourmet kitchen has high-end appliances and a breakfast sun room that opens to the upper patio. You will love the large office with 2 built-in desks, plenty of cabinets, shelving, and a curved bank of windows. The house is professionally landscaped and has a beautiful pavilion entry-way linked to an over-sized 2 car garage. $890,000

Here is another dose of my bad journalistic skills. Below is a picture of a house on Litzsinger Rd near Tilles Park. Someone once told me that during the 1904 World's Fair there were houses on display that typified various State's architecture. I think this one was for Rhode Island and was moved to Ladue after the Fair. If any one knows more or the location of other homes also used in the World's Fair, let me know.
(Update: see one of the comments. I got confirmation that is was the Rhode Island house from the 1904 World's Fair.)
